This week on Keeping up with Kamichat we talked about updates on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Snapchat and YouTube. It was a busy week for the social networks as they continue to make changes to their platforms.
Instagram Updates
New Instagram Inbox (DM) Organization Features. I heard about this one on the Online Marketing Made Easy Podcast with Amy Porterfield, where she interviewed Tyler McCall about How to Build Your Email List With Instagram. He mentioned a new feature that allows you to filter your Instagram inbox with starred and unread messages. When you are in your inbox, you will see a series of three bars with circles in them, when you tap on that, you will see the ability to sort by unread and stared. You can star a message when it is open. The star appears in the top right. Tap it and it turns black. Then you can sort.
Twitter Updates
Last week Twitter had a #FollowerPurge to drop fake accounts. Some reports say they have dropped as many as 70 million fake accounts and bots since May, quarterly counts will be made public later this month. Here is an article I found from my friend Kirsten Oliphant's newsletter after I recorded this week's episode that tells you how to figure out how many Twitter followers your account lost in the purge last week.
Facebook Updates
- Facebook Publishing Tools for Events. Facebook has added new publishing tools for Events. When you click on the meeting after the events it allows you to add a manual count for people who attend. Just click on your page and the Publishing Tools menu item. They now have music you can add, and much more. After your event, you can click on the Event and a new menu pops up with insights and an area to add the number of attendees. If you live stream, you can also pull up all the video from your page and edit quickly to add tags and more.
- Facebook Snooze Keywords. Facebook is testing a feature that will allow you to snooze posts by keywords. Right now you can click on the three dots in the corner of any post and can save, hide, snooze posts from the person for 30 days, unfollow the person, report the post or give feedback, turn on notifications and copy the link.
Linkedin Updates
Linkedin has added a “See Translations” button that appears when there is a post that is not in your language.
Snapchat Updates
Snapchat is working on a new “Visual Search” camera with Amazon. You will be able to snap a photo of an object and search for it and buy it on Amazon right from the Snapchat app.
YouTube Updates
- Breaking and Local News from trusted sources. YouTube is developing features to elevate trustworthy news sources for breaking and local news.
- Incognito Mode. YouTube has added an incognito mode on Android devices.
