Dave Sifry has released his latest State of the Blogosphere report today, and it is more of the same:
Explosive growth!
As of April 17, 2006
35.3 million blogs
19.4 million still posting after 3 months
3.9 million post once a week or more, or 20 percent of all “active” blogs or 11 percent of all blogs
If you extrapolate the data in the State of the Blogosphere post to the PR blogging community, it shows that only 20 percent or 89 blogs post weekly, with 55 percent or 243 of PR blogs still active after three months. This sounds about right from my experience.
While the blogosphere doubles every six months, the PR blogging community is growing a little slower than that, but we only track bloggers that reach out to Constantin Basturea directly to be added to the PR community, or whom he manages to come across in his daily wanderings. So this already filters out some of those that are just “kicking the tires.”
