I love blogging and the magic of social media and all of that; however, sometimes it is cool just to sit down with someone that you have been corresponding over the Internet and have a real, live lunch.
I was in Austin this week to moderate a focus group for a client, and I had the chance to sit down with Connie Reece for lunch at one of my favorite places in Austin, 1886 Café & Bakery in the Driskill Hotel.
Connie is a fairly new blogger who has taken on the medium by storm. She blogs at Blog@bilities, Blogabillies and CONieVERSATIONS – which makes me a little tired when I think of it. She is planning to start a Social Media Club in Austin, so if you are in the Austin area, please contact her.
Our conversation was broad, but one of the things I appreciate about Connie is her rich sense of humor. Take her post earlier this week about the wacky names we give to the Web 2.0 applications and widget. Connie has appointed herself the champion of the vowel “E”, which we have seemed to drop in our haste to appear that we “get it” – or was it because all the best URL’s were already taken?
I still love Flickr, but Connie has a point!
My point is, take some time, go out and have a great meal with a new friend. Social media, or whatever we end up calling it, is nothing unless it leads to a real social experience.
