Explorer Stage in the Pathway to Smart Social Mastery
The Explorer stage is all about creating a brand for yourself online that is unique to you and reflects what only you can do. Think of it as discovering and identifying what you bring to the marketplace and how you can use that to stand out on social media.
The ultimate goal of course is to have your name come up in people’s minds when they’re looking for someone to help them or refer to others.
Below are the three components you need to consider when building your brand.
1. Your Superpower
Your superpower is what draws people to you. It goes beyond simply your products or services. It’s what you use to help your clients achieve their goals. If you’re not sure what your superpower is, start with these questions:
- What specifically do people come to you for?
- What kinds of advice do people seek you out for?
- What special resources do you offer the community and your clients?
- What soft skills do you bring to the table?
- What things in the marketplace tend to irritate you? This can be a clue for things you’d do or approach in a different and better way.
Zoetica founder Kami Huyse’s superpower, for example, is simplifying social media information and processes for her agency and her clients.
2. Your Vision
Vision is hugely important to creating your brand because it serves as the foundation for what you do. It also functions as an amazing internal motivator.
Imagine yourself a year from now, having achieved the goals you’ve set out for your business and life. Recognize the impact you’ve had in the past year. Truly visualize what it all looks and feels like.
Then have that future self write a vision letter to your current self, sharing how proud you are of yourself for the fears you’ve bravely faced, the challenges you’ve overcome, and the successes you’ve had in coming as far as you have.
This simple trick of imagining you’ve already achieved success can help people get out of their own head and overcome the voice that tries to list all sorts of objections for why their dreams can’t possibly come true.
Kami plans to write an updated letter to herself discussing her goal of growing Smart Social Mastery to a thousand members in the next twelve months. Doing so will help her feel confident she can take the steps necessary to make it happen.
3. Your Assets
Lastly, list all of your assets and compile them in an asset archive that’s easily accessible, such as a spreadsheet.
Your assets include your platforms and communication channels and their content, such as your business blog and every blog posts, and your social media channels and posts or video recordings you share. They also include your network and the products or services you offer. Don’t forget to include any interviews or talks you’ve given, and other media you’ve been quoted in.
While you’ll continue to create new content as time goes by, be smart about packaging and repurposing the content you already have for maximum impact.
