There are between 200,000-500,000 active podcasts according to Podcast Insights.
So if you are convinced and ready to join the podcast revolution, here are some tips.
How to Start a Podcast with an Intro and Outro
Having an intro and outro for your podcast is very important. because you want to the podcast to be as professional as possible.
The intro hooks the listener and signals that your content will have a lot of substance.
The outro should let them know what to expect in your next episode to builds the excitement for future shows.
You can also hire a person to do a voice over of your intro and outro which could make it more professional.

It is important to do some planning when you are launching your new podcast.
If you over plan, then doubt can start to set in.
That is why it is important to just start your podcast and make adjustments along the way.
You know exactly what type of style works for you and your audience.
Get the Right Equipment to Start Your Podcast
To make your podcast sound close to professional as a radio show, you will have to have quality equipment.
If you think you can not afford professional type of equipment, there are items which are very affordable within your budget
Question: @kamichat @MadalynSklar which mic did you recommend in your talk? It was Audio Technica I think. #smbhou #podcasting
— Sandra Fernandez (@SandraSays) February 9, 2018
- An Audio Technica ATR 2100 microphone cost between $50 to $80 dollars.
- If you are using Skype to interview your guest, the e-camm call recorder is a great source for recording your podcast
When you are finished recording your show, these platforms can be great for editing your podcast
- Garage Band works well on M.A.C.
- Audacity is a great platform for P.C.
- And if you do not have the time to edit your podcast, you can hire someone else to do the editing for you.
Tools for audio editing: Garage Band on MACs, Audacity for PCs. #podcasting #smbhou

Choose a Hosting Service to Start Your Podcast
Once all of the recording and editing is over, you must have a service as a base to host all of your podcast audio's RSS feed.
- Libsyn is the most recommended platform for the podcast hosting base starting at $20 a month.
- BlogTalkRadio is another option if you are launching a podcast.

Create Detailed Show Notes
It is also important to have show notes from each episode because it can give those who might not have the time to listen, keep track of what is going on from the episode.
You can also re-purpose them as a blog post for your website and improve your search engine ranking in google.
You can check out how Kami and Madalyn do this on their recent podcast about how to start a podcast for your community.
Show notes are very important, says @kamichat. This is especially good if you’re adding the shows to your website. #seo #podcasting #smbhou
