Fellow PR Blogger Todd Defren pointed out to me earlier today that I am at the #1 slot on the PubSub PR daily list today.
In position #2 is Alan Weinkrantz, #3 is San Antonio Byline Blog (a group blog of the local PRSA chapter) and #4 is Steve Rubel (sorry Steve, the disruption will be over soon, we promise).
Alan explains here that the ranking is most likely from a few links we got from Hugh McLeod about the Stormhoek event we held in San Antonio earlier this week.
As for our meteoric rise to #1 and #3, considering the Byline blog has only 8 links (ever) total in its Technorati rankings, with only two (one being Hugh's) in the last few days, I now know that you get more credit for links from higher ranked bloggers.
Of course, I wrote Steven Cohen of the PubSub list to find out what was wrong. He assured me that the daily tab is up-to-snuff and has been running very smoothly since they did some work earlier this week, but that the 30-day tab has issues now.
On that list I am at #149. which sounds a little low, but hey, I am cool with it since B.L. Ochman, Richard Edelman, Scott Bradell (despite Andrea's and Bill's efforts to keep his rankings up while he was on vacation), Steve Rubel and Shel Israel among others, are even lower than that. Not bad company.
Cohen put in a bug report for the 30-day tab, but I did ask him, “When will this platform be stable?” As soon as he knows I am sure he will get back to me, he has been very responsive over e-mail and in comments to anyone who has a concern.
This list could be a great measurement tool, but its accuracy problems that need to be taken into consideration. Ask measurement guru Katie Payne, since she is currently starring at the bottom of the charts too.
It makes me conclude the following (again). Take all of this ranking stuff with a very large shaker of salt. None of these services are perfect and I have seen just as many strange things in Technorati, though overall it has been more stable in my view.
