As meme's go, the Media Snackers meme started by Jeremiah Owyang, based on a video produced by a Website called the Media Snackers Report, is a pretty smart and timely commentary on how people consume information today. The idea was also featured in a March 2007 issue of Wired Magazine.
I thought it would be fun to apply a little measurement to the meme, especially since I am test driving a cool little application put together by Radian6.
My How Those Snacks Have Grown
There have been 72 posts over the past 14 days that include the terms “media snack” or “media snackers.” Both the plurals and the singular uses of each word were also pulled.
What Snacks Are the Meme Writers Serving?
These are the terms that are associated around the media snackers meme. Yummy!

One of the cool things about Radian6 is that it tracks comments, how many were made, unique comments and something they call engagement, which is the number of unique commenters and the length of comments. It needs some minor tweaks, but it is pretty nifty.
How Much Mind Share Did Jeremiah Get From the Meme?
Here is the chart we were all waiting for. What did Jeremiah get out of all of this?
Technorati says 72 links, the Radian6 tool says a bit less, but I imagine that is because Technorati is measuring the hard links, and I am measuring contextual information, which is only as good as the person who enters it.
This is one of the current weaknesses of the Radian6 tool, you can't query hard links. But they say they will be adding that functionality soon.
At any rate, Jeremiah makes out like a bandit with the meme, and the rest of us learned a thing or two and earned a few links ourselves.
The Nearly Comprehensive List
The Media Snackers site has also conveniently been tracking the meme and adding the posts they find to this list. I am not sure if they got all of the posts since my tool says there are about 72, but I am doing lazy journalism here (hey, it's Friday). So what are you waiting for, go ahead and start clicking on this smorgasbord of media snacking delight:
Chris Brogan, Connie Densen, , Connie Reece, Lee Hopkins, Deborah Schultz, , Geoff Livingston, , Cathleen Rittereiser, , Kevin Dugan, Kami Huyse (and again), , Sarah Wurrey, , Kyle Flaherty, , Drew McLellan, , Beth Kanter, Ike Piggott, Jason Falls, Rob La Gesse, Doug Meacham, Chris Wilson, Meg Tsiamis, Elizabeth Dunn, Colin McKay, Tamar Weinberg, Martin Koser, Mark Goren, , Heather Yaxley, , Luis Suarez, Rich, Valeria Maltoni and my own adds, Shel Israel,, Scott Baradell
And for those that are dying to know, the cost of the Radian6 tool is $500 per month for each Topic Profile. Not bad.
