We all know about the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World, but in 1999 Swiss adventurer Bernard Weber started The New7Wonders Foundation in 2001, which has as its aim to protect humankind's heritage across the globe.
As part of this, they started a competition to name the New 7 Wonders with almost 200 nominations from around the world. The list of candidates was narrowed down to 21 by the start of 2006. The Great Pyramid of Giza was taken out of the running when it was given an automatic spot.
According to an article in Yahoo News today, over 90 million people worldwide have cast their vote. The competition ends today (July 6, 2007) at 8 p.m. EDT, so be sure to cast YOUR vote or if you miss the deadline, check out who won.
The New 7 Wonders of the World will be announced during the Official Declaration ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal on Saturday, July 7, 2007.
